The first is that people on certain servers tend to recognize other people on that server as the best at their class. Granted, this makes perfect sense. People who play with each other more often are 1) More friendly with that person and 2) More likely to see them in their more outstanding moments. This wasn't necessarily a new concept to me, it just appeared to be much more prevalent than usual in this thread - especially considering that a number of people openly criticized it.
The second comes from a combination of the thread and my recent PuG'ing experiences. Many people on servers other than AP simply don't get the recognition that they deserve. As an avid arena enthusiast myself, I completely understand the motives for being slow to make decisions on a player based on WSG where they have nine other players to back them (thus providing a larger margin for error). This, however, does not warrant total disregard of a player's ability.
By this point, you may be asking yourself saying to yourself: "Great, now I've wasted a minute reading his wall of text and he still hasn't made his point." To that I say, don't worry, I'm getting there.
In light of these observations and my recent experiences in the gulch, I have decided to devote this blog to highlighting players whose talents merit acknowledgment. I could be posting several times a day or only once a week depending on the quality of games and players that I encounter. Most posts will be descriptions of their playstyle or stories regarding my game(s). Some on the other hand may resemble Twink Spotlight posts like this one from Twinking.net The things I will be looking for in potential candidates are:
- Almost entirely objective game play. I don't care if you can farm graveyard like a pro, you're just going to slowly encourage people to leave the bracket and, simultaneously, create more farm fests.
- In healers, I'm going to be looking mainly at positioning and CD usage. Use of dispels are also a pretty simple way to separate good shamans/paladins from bad ones. Positioning is also pretty significant for ranged.
- Stuff that catches be by surprise. Blink jukes off roof as FC with 30 HP left, quick shifts to bear to wild charge an FC right in front of cap and grab flag, twelve flag returns in one game, crazy demo leap jumps or flag carring, etc.
I actually hoping to come up with a more substantial list but this is off the top of my head and I'm sure I'll think of things later. If all goes well, I'll play a few games tonight and have our first featured player written up before I go to sleep. For now, here's a cute baby boomkin picture.
